Tigrotti's Travels

Tigers in Australia

Finally, after having arranged the photos I decided to write an account of the fantastic journey that we started from 29/12/2007 to 21/01/2008.

All started with a provocation of our friend Roby, after endless conversations about what it would be nice to visit a friend of ours in Hong Kong and then go to Australia, tickets were booked 6 months in advance. Between one thing and another plan takes shape, and despite spending not just for our small pockets we convince ourselves to face the company.

Without realizing it (like Chatwin) to pack a moleskine notebook to note down the details of the trip. And here I carry my notes after having outlined the stages of the journey.

The first stage is, of course Hong Kong to find the best violinist in the world!

Visualizzazione ingrandita della mappa

So from Hong Kong we flew to Sydney and from there by car we did the following route Sydney-Melbourne-Adelaide:

Visualizzazione ingrandita della mappa

Then we spent three days in the Kangaroo Island and then we came back to Adelaide. Here, the tigers are separated from friends and fly to Perth to go and explore the eastern part of Australia and in particular-Shark Bay and Monkey Mia-Coral Bay:

The rest is the return trip, but if the route has intrigued you follow us in the narrative of the journey taken by our trusted Moleskine.

04/01/2008

Only now beginning to write something because I've been in since 27/12/2007 is a powerful acute cold or flu, after two days of intensive care the super 29/12 we woke up early, at 3.30, about to be at the airport to 5.00.

Thanks to the good old Gimmy we parked in a safe for free.

After some minor problems with the check-in ticket Igor we left for the first jump in Rome. Here, waiting until 12:25 and then the big jump in Hong Kong. 11.30 hours of flight with a powerful cold, not wish it on anyone, not even the worst enemy (especially if you touch the knees)

DAY 1 - HONK KONG 30/12/2007

bridge.jpg

Tsing Ma Bridge

Arrival at the airport at about 7:00 AM

Find Andrea Lai and Chan is waiting for an exciting experience. Changed / removed the money and got the octopus (rechargeable card for all transport and also for many shops) we are going to take a bus at two plants for the center. Unfortunately there is very hot due to a monsoon, but during the journey, we begin to see the huge skyscrapers of these islands.

We finally arrive at the Regal Riverside Hotel, booked via the Internet, being a bit 'disappointed with the 60s setting and the fact that's not really clean, especially the room that the architect was made in haste. The location is excellent, however, and to avoid problems of time, on the advice of the expert violinist girovagante, we decide to make a right until the evening. So because of my physical condition I become a zombie! We are with Andrew and Conny Chan Lai Sha Tin at the mall and go to eat at a Chinese restaurant on the top floor, where we eat very well, even if it seems to be in a bingo hall with lots of numbers called aloud .

Without a stroll in the mall that seems to one of our stores, but 100 times larger, Mong Kok to take us where we come to know the true soul of consumer and commercial city. Turning a bit 'and looking at prices lower than ours by 25-30% a bit' all the time we do get carried away for immediate purchases and / or future.

After the revolution and the purchases we move to the sushi bar, with its beautiful place that wasabi can free up some 'my airway and then off to the hotel for a well earned rest, only that for me in a cold, jet lag and fatigue at night is not very good.

DAY 2 - HONK KONG 31/12/2007

Other day, unfortunately, zombies! Exploring the area "good" by the skyscrapers of Hong Kong-stratospheric all increasingly shifting to urban areas and the ubiquitous shopping malls. We try to go on top of "The Peak", but the tail is eternal so we hijacked the nearby botanical garden with aviary, beautiful, exquisite, Free!

Turning back the long search for where lunch takes us from Mac Donald Triste.A quick refresh and then back to the hotel in Mong Kok, where the past, including myself, fall into the trap of consumerism.

We're going to celebrate the last year in a Cantonese restaurant, very characteristic, but the foods of which inspire us less than other places so far tested. Here, unfortunately, someone decided that my jacket would taste the sauces.

skyscraper.jpg

Skyscrapers in Hong-kong

We note with regret that the girl I soiled my jacket nor the waiters who have seen the slightest worry of the thing, which seems to show a strong individualism, with little attention to the other (say maybe wrong but that is what we feel a bit 'all that which I have also been reflected in the stories of Terzani). Celebrating still quietly toasting with beer, in the absence of better ... (but only for us Western New Year )

  DAY 3 - HONK-KONG 01/01/2008

buddha.jpg

Great Buddha Statue

After so many malls we finally see something more Chinese: The large statue of Buddha!

Take the first bus that takes us to a mall! And here, too many fall prey to delusions of consumerism Soldi.

Very good lunch at a Chinese restaurant by the many specialties and then, late as always, we leave to go see the Giant Buddha. To get there take another bus that appears, and travels, as our mountain, 30 years ago! And the streets are the same as in our single lane.

The Buddha is new (1980) and the house is old and finally we see something of China.

We return by bus and ferry to the Bay of Hong Kong, really beautiful at night, and finally do the photos that we can not do on the first day.

pezzo_baia_honk_kong.jpg

Skyline at Hong Kong Bay

Shatin We head for dinner in a beautiful Thai restaurant, where I and Antonio we can get a hand from spicy foods, and the latter with dinner to salute our friends Andrea Chan Lai.

If I sum up the trip to Hong Kong I can definitely say that I liked the Skyline, the surroundings, the speed of running, and I did not like the eternal shopping mall, the rampant consumerism, indifference, poor "accuracy". This is only a superficial analysis of 3 days, but in any case, I think the city deserves another visit.

DAY 4 - HONK KONG - SIDNEY 02/01/2008

viewsy.jpg

View from Sydney Tower

Transfer by Bus (A41) from the airport. 5.45 am bus to arrive at the airport at about 6:30. Roberto wait, check-in, a bit 'too late, we have to rush to catch the plane, which turns out to be better than what it has brought us to Hong Kong, but my conditions are not much yet. ..

9-hour flight to arrive in Sydney at 21.30! Finally we arrived in the land of kangaroos! They call us a taxi that takes us to the big-Crowne Plaza where we arrived about 22:00 or so. In the search for where to eat even witness to a furious assault near the hotel! MacDonald still end up in dinner and then finally to bed.

DAY 5 - SIDNEY 03/01/2008

stower.jpg

Sidney Tower

We have breakfast from Starbucks as usual, now and then we do the day-pass for the monorail and then decide to go to sydney-tower from where you can see from across Sydney. Here we make the Discovery 3 - Sydney Value Pass, which allows the views of the Sydney Aquarium, the Sydney Wildlife World and Sydney Tower + OzTrek. Then we head towards Darling Harbour, which we discover only 2 minutes walk from the hotel and go to visit the naval museum (destroyer + submarine). A short break to eat and then to the wildlife park, then we decide it's too late for the aquarium and back to rest a bit 'in the hotel before going to dinner. After dinner we ride the monorail to use the day pass.

    DAY 6 - SIDNEY 04/01/2008

We begin to finally take the time to 9:00 so we are in front of the aquarium, which is very nice, but quite similar to that of Genoa. Very nice tank with sharks, turtles, manta rays and visible from below. At 11.00 we meet with "our friend Eric" that takes us for a walk around Sydney telling us where it is better to go. Then visit the Sydney Opera House, then the Rocks, and then rest at the Royal Botanic Garden in the late afternoon and take the ferry to Darling Harbour.

Francesca and I stay in, since they are still short of forces, while others go to leisure-track and then we all go to dinner on the Bay in Darling Harbour (beautiful presentation, but fish coooold! )

   DAY 7 - SIDNEY-MORUYA 05/01/2008

Take a taxi to pick up your rental car ....

wallaga_lake-005.jpg

Wallaga Lake

Let's go a bit 'late and we can only do 240 km on the first day, even by a lunch not exactly wonderful.

We see beautiful scenery and lots of people on the sea, even if it is only a tenth of what can be found on our beaches. When we decide to stop to sleep are all full (here's a holiday!) And end at the Moruya Waterfront Hotel, where we can find a place to sleep and eat anything for a nap. I do not remember if we had a bath today or the next day ...

  DAY 8 - MORUYA-ROSEDALE 06/01/2008

waterfront.jpg

Moruya - Waterfront  View

One of the days that I liked more! Left at 7.00, great light and empty street. Beautiful coastal scenery, pristine lagoons and Creek, boundless forests, waves that are shattered on the rocks that seem to generate an aerosol mist. We decide to skip lunch and earning a little 'time we can swim nel'Oceano, it seems to me to be back home ...

We do a lot more 'street and arrive in Sale, where we find everything except a desert Irsih Pub but we eat really well. Here too we get a bit 'too much though and leave again at 20.10.

After seeing several closed at Motel first opened we stop! We arrived at Rosedale

  DAY 9 - ROSEDALE-MELBOURNE 07/01/2008

Tirade of more than 400km to get to Melbourne. We have breakfast in a strange bar, but the breakfast is very good! Then we set off for the long pull up to Melbourne. Here we enter the "tangential" super mess by passing on some fee that's not clear how to pay ...

Arriving near the information desk we explain the mystery of payment and book a Ibis hotel for the night.

We climb to the Rialto Tower and discover that the city does not like much. Take a tour and find a nice restaurant on the river, where there is a Turin, which also provides us with lunch on bread and water at last .

st._peters_anglican_church-006.jpg

Anglican Church of St. Peters

Coco and I go to see the aquarium, we set some of the animals, while others do a spin. Then we find ourselves at the hotel where we fight with the machine and I'm late for dinner. We end, in fact, eating in an alley last time they're about to close, but this time as well who eat pasta and people like me who wants to try new flavors, kangaroo meat!

  DAY 10 - MELBOURNE-PORT CAMPBELL 08/01/2008

 port_campbell-016.jpg

Sunset at Port Campbell

The most beautiful road: The Great Ocean Road! But unfortunately not part of the day is dedicated to the well of despair that Antonio has lost all the money! Having done a thousand checks we decide to go anyway, even if we do not understand if it may have been an oversight or a theft.

After spending Geelonged be truly entered the Great Ocean Road are starting with stops in: Torquay, Bells Beach, Anglesea. In this path can not remember where we visit the rain forest with palms, but especially with the tree ferns that are awesome .

We share a ride to Apollo Bay where we decide to go to the lighthouse in Cape Otaway. Along the way, "Lynx Eye" identifies the first Coco Koala, thanks to my warning that you have read on the internet that there's a community, and so starting the steps for each photo and movie Koala. In fact, we arrive at 18.00 to the lighthouse e. .. we find that at that time is already close. I took off again with some minor discomfort from the stage for photos with Koala. Continuing our journey we all written "No Vacancy". Once in Princeton tell us to call Mark to Port Campbell where we arrived about 20:00 in the past. After several attempts, the copies are housed in the beautiful apartments with single and Jacuzi in bed & breakfast. Unfortunately in the confusion we are late again and end up eating pizza in a kind of a place that sets the flag of Leon !

  DAY 11 - PORT CAMPBELL-MOUNT GAMBIER 09/01/2008

Let's go back to the Apostles and i12 ...

Encounter breathtaking landscapes, but unfortunately even the flies take your breath away ... In fact, the 12 Apostles, which are beautiful to see, I can not resist and escape cover. The following paragraphs should be better and I can see something more or less at peace.

baia_naufrago.jpg

Castaway Bay

The second stage in fact do to Loch Ard Gorge, which I enjoyed more of flies because there were so few.

Going forward we point out the beautiful reserve of Tower Hill where we got to see the first emu and kangaroo, but where the flies we were again massacred. The day after we bought it in Adelaide hats with anti-insect nets, but there were also used to the heat because there were 50 degrees.

  DAY 12 - MOUNT GAMBIER-ADELAIDE 10/01/2008

Between days 11 and 12 do a little 'confusing, but on this day we decide to go down to Adelaide for cutting Highway. We arrived early enough to arrive at the information and book tour to Kangaroo Island and even a hotel. At 17.00 we drive business to the Avis car and then return to the hotel. For dinner, we find a nice pub where we eat well and then finally travel to the hotel to the alarm at 5.45 for the bus arrives at 6.20

  DAY 13 - KANGAROO ISLAND 11/01/2008

Bus got some belated and the driver a bit 'picky ;-)

We climb on the ferry and on arrival we find Dave with a  19-seater minibus owith a trailer that we charge up and leave for our safari!! We discover that shocked the island unfortunately there was just a terrible fire that devastated 90% of the island and then the program is modified from the standard, but still we see animals at will between koalas, kangaroos, sea lions, iguanas and various birds.

 tammar_wallabies3-076.jpg

Tammar Wallabies

Understand English Dave is indeed a problem for me and I lose a lot of information that certainly I would have appreciated .

The organization is still good and there are even ahead to buy the beverage in the evening we spend some Farm, where, after some problems for overnight accommodation, then resolved, we do a great barbecue is where our Gimmy to the plate !!

The wine is not the best, but the atmosphere is fantastic. After dinner all around the fire and then little evening tour in search of kangaroos, wallabies and where we can also catch a Possum.

We even played 1,2,3 star with a kangaroo, and then we go to bed very satisfied!

  DAY 14 - KANGAROO ISLAND 12/01/2008

flinder_chase1-027.jpg

Flinder chase

Another day of safari, but with fewer animals because we are in areas most devastated by fire. Dave tells us many things, but still not understand . Accompany someone to the island's small airport, we go to see the show of pelicans and away you go back to Adelaide. Igor will return here tomorrow in Italy and the other in Sydney, while we remain one more day in Adelaide.

Once back at the hotel at 22.40 we go to get food without the piripini, Saturday night and find that Adelaide is definitely a "charnel house" with half-naked girls running barefoot boys decidedly "gay" and all dressed in strange ways .

After discarding MacDonald, and found an endless line at the Pub the night before, we end up in a Hungry Jack's where we eat something quickly and then to bed.

  DAY 15 - ADELAIDE 13/01/2008

On the day of separation! Those who return home, those who return to Sydney and who is preparing for a new adventure to explore the WA outback.

For us it is a quiet day, with breakfast Igor, nice ride on the river, having regard to the Zoo up at 15.00. Relax, do not discover until he had thrown my flight reservation . Then jump to the hotel and then to the internet point for reprinting . Let another round until you find a fantastic steak house where we eat very well but we go to bed early because the taxi waiting for us at 5.30

Pinnacles Desert

The flight takes 3 hours and 1 / 2 but we gain 1 hour and 1 / 2 for the time . We are able to give us a Honda Getz dall'Avis and head (left hand drive manual transmission and allowing )

We have a long way and will soon begin to discover the real Australia with stretches of 100-180 Km of nowhere, with no construction on the horizon and no signal on the phone, with signs that warn of filling up with water. After a quick view of the Pinnacles Desert that takes us a step we just Oretta benza and Goofy. Geraldton discover that exceeded the city marked on the atlas are the distributors GeneralStore!!

The place is beautiful and we decided to book the night of 17/01 for the return. The very kind lady there also book a room at Coral Bay. FLet's take a bath and head to Coral Bay. Others come just 530Km starting at 12.20 to 18.00! Definitely a nice place and also eat well from Fins

   DAY 18 - CORAL BAY 16/01/2008

Wake up early to try diving, but all open at 8.00 AM. Let's wait and find out that today is all filled up and tomorrow is only all day Sigh!

Then take us to see dolphins and turtles and then do some 'snorkeling on reef.E considered that the depth of about 6 meters and I would say that is fine equal

coral_bay_accomodation-001.jpg

Coral bay accomodation

We return this evening to have dinner by the Good's early, but I could not find out where people buy bottles of wine here in the country. All they have it, but nobody sells it, bah! BYO but the formula is fine if you bring from home for 1000km??

  DAY 19- CORAL BAY-MONKEY MIA 17/01/2008

We were burned !!!!! SCoco especially for the first time in his life. Fortunately, it is bad and so we start on 10:00 with no problems. It reflects the way of death (yes, because the carcasses of kangaroos on the road are numerous ). This time I even invested in a calf with his mother nearby. On the first distributor (after circa30 km) with my macaroni wonder if English is normal or if you have to call somebody, but I say that is dangerous, but for the machines!! And what is normal anyway.

hamelin_pool-stromatoliti06-018.jpg

Hamelin pool - Stromatoliti

We stop looking for the oldest rocks in the world, but they are alive! We see the stromatolites using cyanobacteria, the first creators of oxygen in the world. The heat is terrible, we are above 40 ° C, but we continue and arrive at Monkey Mia on 17:00 where we have a beautiful bathroom and a wonderful dinner with good water fish and a good wine (at last) are also reappeared for the dolphins night view!

The only sad that we begin to feel the atmosphere of the back ....

PS Finishing of documents to the back I found these beautiful sites on dolphins in the area:

Genealogy of families of dolphins of Monkey Mia

Foundation research on dolphins of Monkey Mia

  DAY 20- MONKEY MIA-PERTH 18/01/2008

Go back to home, we expect about 900 km with the trusty Getz. We risked our lives!!   Coco is over on the gravel with a wheel and we did some 'numbers, but do not worry anything about that ... You can not lose concentration for even a second

deserto.jpg

Outback West Australia

The trip along the North West Coastal HighWay offers great views of the Australian desert, but nothing to report. Photos of Signs, Eagles, Varani. Eat close to an RAF base where I can hardly understand what they say again ...

We continue and arrive near Perth and then at 21.00 Part of the difficult search for a place to sleep that brings us up to Fremantale (very beautiful at night and in general different from other city views). Let's go back to the airport and find a place to sleep in a hotel room with river view room and whirlpool

  DAY 21- PERTH-SIDNEY 19/01/2008

In the morning we prepare for the return but before we do a trip to Perth for a quick Oretta. Without the usual pee turn the pedestrian zone. The city we love, but the houses in the suburbs are even more beautiful. Unfortunately, it is now time to leave and then the runway to the airport to leave our trusted Getz (3000km along ) And fly to Sydney, losing this time by 2 hours of time. Landed mounted taxi finally show where my English that makes us spend only $ 37 and earn a lot of information. His friends are waiting anxiously watched the show and after shipping and fireworks in our honor to bring us food from their friend Sabrina. The food is not great but good and the wine chosen by Tony and super. the couples go to the hotel and then make single or at least they try spree
